Superb quality filter

In my opinion Formatt-hitech filters are the best you can buy, afterall if they are good enough for Hollywood they are good enough for me ;-)
The UV 400nm was purchased for use on the new Hasselblad 55mm F2.5 XCD lens and X2D 100C camera. The combination of that lens and the 44mm x 33mm 100MP sensor puts huge demands on filters and the Firecrest does not disapoint and compared to some other makes it is also something of a bargain.
For all my filter needs it’s Firecrest from now on.

UV haze. It’s a problem that photographers face everyday. Haze reduces the overall contrast of an image and is almost always the first environmental phenomena to ruin your chances of turning that landscape photograph into fine-art. Haze is caused by ultraviolet contamination on your digital sensor or film, and causes the image to appear faded blue, gray or milky.

Firecrest UV filters come in four variations:

  • UV Multicoated offers basic UV and lens protection.
  • UV 370nm is a premium filter with a defined UV cut at 370nm
  • UV 400nm offers the maximum UV reduction for shooting high altitudes and snow. Schott Superwite glass makes this the ultimate UV filter.
  • UV IR Cut is a specialty filter that reduces ultraviolet and infrared.

Firecrest Multicoating

Firecrest is a multicoating application for glass filters that is by far the most technologically advanced filter manufacturing process on the market. The Firecrest process is a hard-coated electrolytic process that is anti-reflective, scratch-resistant, and hydrophobic. Most importantly, Firecrest technology gives our scientists unprecedented control over modifying specific frequencies of the light spectrum.

SuperSlim and UltraSlim Rings

We manufacture our high quality aluminum rings to the most demanding tolerances, and these really slim rings minimize the chance of vignetting.

UltraSlim rings are 3mm thin, but lack threads for stacking or a lens cap.

SuperSlim rings are 5.5mm thin and have threads for stacking

THE NEW FIRECREST HOLDER MKII ATTACHED TO A TOKINA 11-20 T2.9 AND BLACK MAGIC POCKET 6K. WHEN PAIRED WITH THE FIRECREST ULTRA RANGE OF FILTER ALLOWS YOU TO GET CINEMA-QUALITY ND AT A FRACTION OF THE WEIGHT

A bigger polariser giving you a wider view

With recent developments in optical design, it has become more common for lenses to have larger threads. To accommodate these advancements we have expanded our CPL (circular polarising filter) to 86mm. This means wider compatibility and better performance on a range of new wide-angle lenses. It also makes it compatible with a range of cinema lenses such as the Tokina 11-20MM T2.9.

The polariser can be fitted into either included rotating ring adapter, and becomes an integral part of the holder. The polariser is operated with an easy to use thumbscrew. This allows you to set your grads and then dial in the exact

polarising effect you want. Due to its free movement, this means you can leave the polarising filter (CPL) attached at all times and simply turn off the effect if not wanted. The construction of the filter also means you can use the CPL filter as an independent filter without the need of the holder.

More step rings, more flexibility.

For improved performance on an even wider range of lenses, the holder now ships with two rotating adapters as standard. These adapters allow the lens to sit closer to the filters helping with wide-angle photography. The kit

includes an 86mm - 86mm rotating adapter and a 86mm - 82mm adapter. For best performance on 77mm and smaller wide-angle lenses, it is recommended to use the included step rings from the 86-86mm rotating adapter.
