The Firecrest Ultra Cine Superslim 4x5.65 IRND 2mm filters are designed for all those times you need a cinema camera setup with minimum weight to fly on a drone, Steadicam, gimbal, or just to lighten the load on your back when you have to carry your own kit.
They are the lightest possible 4x5.65 cinema grade glass filter, weighing in at around half of an equivalent standard thickness 4mm ND filter, while maintaining the same excellent neutrality and optical quality that Firecrest filters are renowned for.

A new standard for lightweight cinema filtration
Formatt Hitech have today introduced a new range of cinema grade glass filters that are just 2mm thick. The Firecrest Ultra Cine Superslim 4x5.65 IRND filters are designed for all those times you need a cinema camera setup with minimum weight to fly on a drone, Steadicam, gimbal, or just to lighten the load on your back when you have to carry your own kit. They are the lightest possible 4x5.65 cinema grade glass filter, weighing in at around half of an equivalent standard thickness 4mm ND filter, while maintaining the same excellent neutrality and optical quality that Firecrest filters are renowned for.
It makes them the perfect solution to marry with ultra-lightweight matte boxes like the Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom. For ARRI standard matteboxes a dedicated 2mm filter tray from Formatt is available. This will allow the filters to be used in most Bright Tangerine, Chroziel, Wooden Camera and ARRI matteboxes. Alternatively the slimness of the filter allows two 2mm filters to be placed together in a regular 4mm tray. The Bright Tangerine Atom takes things one step further by allowing a 2mm Superslim and a regular 4mm filter to be combined together.
Made of premium grade optical glass using Formatt’s advanced optical technology, the Firecrest Ultra Superslim 4x5.65 filters will be available in 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.8 and 2.1 strengths. The new 2mm tray will be available on its own or in a kit with all five filters. A full set weighs in at only 360g, making it easy to carry on any job.
For users requiring a filter attachment system with the lowest possible form factor the new filters are also compatible with the new Firecrest 100mm MKII holder. This low-profile filter holder accepts the 2mm Superslim 4x5.65 as well as standard 100mm x 100mm photographic glass or resin filters. It secures them to your lens thread via adapter rings in sizes from 67mm to 86mm. In addition the holder can take the included 86mm circular polariser at the same time. This polariser can be used in combination with the other filters or on its own.

A bigger polariser giving you a wider view
With recent developments in optical design, it has become more common for lenses to have larger threads. To accommodate these advancements we have expanded our CPL (circular polarising filter) to 86mm. This means wider compatibility and better performance on a range of new wide-angle lenses. It also makes it compatible with a range of cinema lenses such as the Tokina 11-20MM T2.9.
The polariser can be fitted into either included rotating ring adapter, and becomes an integral part of the holder. The polariser is operated with an easy to use thumbscrew. This allows you to set your grads and then dial in the exact
polarising effect you want. Due to its free movement, this means you can leave the polarising filter (CPL) attached at all times and simply turn off the effect if not wanted. The construction of the filter also means you can use the CPL filter as an independent filter without the need of the holder.
More step rings, more flexibility.
For improved performance on an even wider range of lenses, the holder now ships with two rotating adapters as standard. These adapters allow the lens to sit closer to the filters helping with wide-angle photography. The kit
includes an 86mm - 86mm rotating adapter and a 86mm - 82mm adapter. For best performance on 77mm and smaller wide-angle lenses, it is recommended to use the included step rings from the 86-86mm rotating adapter.
